Hanasu is a speaking practice app for Japanese grammar. This policy describes exactly what information the app uses, where it goes, and what we never do with it.

Voice audio and speech recognition

Hanasu uses your device's microphone to record your spoken responses during grammar drills and quick-review sessions. Your speech is sent to Apple's speech recognition service for transcription, using Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer framework (ja-JP locale). This is Apple's standard system-level service — the same one used by Siri and Dictation. Your audio is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We never receive, store, or process your voice recordings. The transcript returned by Apple is used only to evaluate your grammar response on-device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Pre-recorded audio (text-to-speech)

Hanasu plays pre-generated audio for AI dialogue turns and grammar examples. These MP3 files are bundled with the app and generated by us during development using Google's Text-to-Speech API. No audio is generated at runtime — your device simply plays a static file. None of your data is sent to Google when the app plays audio.

Progress and review data

The app stores your practice history and learning state on your device only, using Apple's UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

No account required

Hanasu does not require you to create an account or sign in to use the app. All core features — including all free N5 and N4 content — are available without any registration.

Sign in with Apple (purchase restoration only)

Sign in with Apple is offered solely as a way to restore your Hanasu Pro purchase on a new device. We do not store your Apple ID, name, or email address. No personal data is transmitted to us during the Sign in with Apple flow. Apple handles the purchase verification entirely.

Third-party services

Hanasu does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash reporting services that collect personal data. There are no tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or behavioral profiling tools in the app.

The only external services involved during normal app usage are:

Apple Speech Recognition — transcribes your spoken responses (see above)
Apple StoreKit — handles the Hanasu Pro purchase and restoration

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties. There is no data to share — everything stays on your device.

Deleting your data

To remove all locally stored data, delete Hanasu from your device. Reinstalling the app starts fresh. If your device is set up to restore app data from iCloud Backup, that backup is managed by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Policy updates

If our data practices change, this page will be updated before any new behavior is shipped. The effective date at the top of this page reflects when it was last revised.
